If not go my Modded Skyrim guide and follow section 2 to get MO2 installed to your system. This guide will assume that you already have MO2 installed. This guide is intended for use with Mod Organizer 2, if you use Vortex then you will be ok, but I am unable to help with it. Nearly all files will be optional, for the ones that are necessary for the guide to function properly I will mark as such. But use whatever size textures are best for your system.

This guide is not intended as a How to Mod guide like the one linked below it is intended to help folks who already mod have simple reference for setting up a base fully textured game. But the most important thing is do you like it? 2k for the big stuff and 512 for the really inconsequential stuff. Next thing to consider can your system handle the size textures your using? My 920m would melt if I threw a bunch of 4k textures at it. For instance, unless you are mainly setting up your game for screenshots, why on earth would anyone need 4k lockpicks? For something so small in game under normal play you will not notice the difference between 512 and 4k textures and your gpu will not work as hard to display them. The first being what is the object being retextured and what size is it in game. The size chosen depends on a number of factors. Most mod authors give different size options for thier textures, 512, 1k, 2k, 4k. A texture that makes the stone fences out of shiny perfect marble while the rest of the game keeps it's grayish end of the world feel then the texture added will be out of place and look horrible no matter how well made the textures are. When I choose textures and I have a choice between different mods supplying the same texture I look at not only the quality of the texture but how well it will fit into the gameworld.

A mismatch between meshes and textures can cause things such as gaps or seams. If you have ever seen things in your game all a shiny purple you were missing the textures and seeing only the mesh. I think of them this way the mesh is the 'frame' and the texture is the 'skin'.
